Mercedes-Maybach recently presented an exquisite convertible during an event in Carmel, California, as part of Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s updated new model strategy following underwhelming results from their initial electric vehicle offerings. The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, a luxurious two-seat convertible with a retractable soft top, is based on the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 and stands as the smallest modern Maybach model to date. This vehicle showcases the brand’s dedication to crafting intricately designed cars, drawing inspiration from the opulent Maybach models of the 1930s.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 features distinctive design elements such as the Maybach logo on the chrome grille and A-pillars, rose-gold accents on the taillights, and is offered in two-tone color options of garnet or moonlight white with a black hood and 21-inch wheels. The interior boasts a stark white color scheme, with no alternative options available. The uniquely bold aesthetics of the car are intended to resonate with the brand’s younger demographic of owners, with an average age of 41 globally compared to 54 for Cadillac buyers.

Mercedes has periodically introduced various Maybach models since relaunching the brand in 2002, with notable releases like the Mercedes-Maybach S680 sedan by Virgil Abloh. Sales of Mercedes-Maybach vehicles have been robust, with global sales reaching 27,900 units in 2023, marking a 19% increase from the previous year.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 is equipped with a 577-horsepower V-8 bi-turbo engine, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 161 mph. The vehicle’s enhanced weight, suspension, engine tuning, exhaust system, and sound insulation provide a smoother driving experience compared to the sportier Mercedes-AMG SL63.

Potential future enhancements for the SL 680 may include expanded color and trim options, as suggested by Anja Steindl, Mercedes-Maybach’s brand and product communications manager. Customization programs like the Night Series variant, which darkens all chrome and white elements, have proven successful at attracting younger buyers and driving substantial profitability.

The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is expected to be available at US dealerships in the second half of 2025, with pricing details to be announced closer to the launch date, anticipated to surpass the starting price of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 at $187,000.
