NewRange Copper Nickel has announced a new team with global expertise that will oversee four key studies over the next year to evaluate new mining technology and sustainability developments for the NorthMet project. The team’s focus on tailings storage, water science, efficient production, and carbon reduction will ensure that the project remains at the forefront of responsible clean energy mineral resource development.
These studies are crucial as the NorthMet project represents one of the largest undeveloped copper and nickel deposits in the world. By supporting the United States’ clean energy transition and creating a domestic supply chain for clean energy minerals, NewRange aims to limit new environmental impacts and remediate former mine sites.
NewRange President and General Manager, Tannice McCoy, emphasized the importance of transparency and engagement with stakeholders in the development process. The company is committed to meeting all permitting requirements and will undergo supplemental environmental reviews if any proposed changes arise.
In terms of tailings storage, NewRange is exploring various options to minimize impact and improve environmental conditions. The company is also focused on water monitoring and treatment technologies to ensure compliance with water quality standards and protect local ecosystems.
Efforts are also being made to enhance production efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. NewRange hopes to increase production capacity while lowering energy intensity and exploring methods to sequester carbon emissions from mining activities.
NewRange Copper Nickel, a joint venture of Teck Resources Limited and Glencore AG, is dedicated to responsible mining practices and aims to deliver economic benefits to the region and beyond. For more information about NewRange Copper Nickel job opportunities and updates, please visit their website.
