On October 18, 2024, Governance Professionals of Canada (GPC) announced the launch of its mentorship program aimed at empowering the next generation of governance leaders. In the current Canadian governance landscape, mentorship programs are integral to fostering effective leadership and enhancing board effectiveness. As organizations navigate complex and rapid changes, experienced mentors play a crucial role in guiding emerging leaders through challenges by sharing best governance practices and promoting ethical decision-making.
The Governance Professionals of Canada Mentorship Program (GPC-MP) is designed to facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen governance practices in Canada. By investing in this program, both organizations and individuals can cultivate a new generation of skilled governance professionals who are equipped to lead impactful conversations within their communities or organizations.
The GPC-MP is a complimentary service available to GPC members, offering structured pairing, meet-ups (virtual/in-person), and the sharing of real-life experiences to support professional growth. Lynn Beauregard, President of Governance Professionals of Canada, emphasized the significance of the mentorship program in bridging the gap between seasoned professionals and emerging leaders to ensure a solid foundation for good governance in Canada.
Professionals interested in the program can utilize the GPC Career Advancement and Benchmarking Tool to assess their level of governance experience and determine the skills required to achieve the CGO level of senior governance professional. Those at levels 1 to 3 can benefit as mentees, while individuals at levels 4-7 are eligible to become mentors.
