Australian explorers are actively pursuing lithium opportunities in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec in Canada, recognizing the potential for growth in the battery metal market amidst the electrification revolution. With forecasts predicting severe lithium shortages by 2030, companies are eager to capitalize on new exploration opportunities.
Rubix Resources (ASX: RB6) recently acquired ground in James Bay, Quebec, an area known for significant lithium projects and pegmatites. The company purchased the ground from DG Resource Management, who had previously identified the Corvette property, currently being explored for lithium by Patriot Battery Metals (ASX: PMT | TSXV: PMET). Rubix’s Ceiling lithium project covers 5,000 hectares with a 25km strike length along the Wemindji greenstone belt.
Kuniko (ASX: KNI) has also begun field exploration at three lithium projects in James Bay with the help of Canadian exploration services provider, Axiom Exploration Group. Recharge Metals (ASX: REC) recently obtained full ownership of the Express lithium project in James Bay, Quebec, becoming another player in the region.
Cohiba Minerals (ASX: CHK) has expanded its portfolio to include four lithium projects in Ontario, in addition to its existing copper, gold, and gypsum projects in Western Australia and Queensland. The company is finalizing a $1.75 million placement to fund exploration activities on all four properties later this year.
Blaze Minerals (ASX: BLZ) has entered the Ontario market by acquiring the North Spirit lithium project in the Red Lake mineral province. The company describes the area as an “electric avenue” with favorable geology for lithium deposits. Initial field activities will target granite pegmatites similar to those found at the nearby PAK deposit.
