Blackline Safety (TSX: BLN) has commenced the deployment phase as part of a previously announced $2 million agreement with Severn Trent Water, the second largest water company in the United Kingdom, to provide connected personal gas detection devices to its employees.
These devices will safeguard over 10,000 workers of Severn Trent across six of the 12 UK water and wastewater authorities where Blackline’s technology has already been implemented.
Julian Jarvis, the zone manager for Blackline Safety in the UK, noted the increasing adoption of their versatile technology, which can be utilized in various work environments. He emphasized the benefits of real-time cloud-connected data and scalable technology that can adapt to changing work settings. This has led to strong adoption of Blackline’s safety solutions in the water and wastewater industry, which serves more than 26.6 million customers in the UK.
Severn Trent recently began deploying 1,650 Blackline Safety G7c wearable devices, with plans to replace their existing gas detection units with over 2,600 G7c devices and related services in the coming months. Severn Trent provides services to approximately 4.8 million homes and businesses in England and Wales.
The G7c devices from Blackline Safety are described as durable, intelligent, and connected wearables that accurately detect gas hazards, alert workplaces, and facilitate contact tracing. They offer corrective actions to prevent future incidents and features like no-motion detection, fall detection, and missed check-ins. Blackline’s 24/7 live monitoring service complements these devices to ensure maximum employee safety.
The $2 million agreement between Blackline Safety and Severn Trent has a three-year term with an option to extend for an additional five years, potentially increasing the value to $4.2 million. Breathe Safety will lead the implementation and rollout of the devices.
