AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX:ATRL) has secured a contract worth US$65 million to provide professional and engineering services to the Miami-Dade County for the development of its new waste-to-energy plant. The scope of work includes design criteria, consulting, advisory, and environmental services for pre-construction activities.

This project is set to establish the largest waste-to-energy facility in the United States, with the capacity to process 4,000 tons of waste per day. AtkinsRéalis will oversee the construction process and provide quality control support to Miami-Dade County, Florida, under a 10-year professional services agreement.

Ian L. Edwards, the President and CEO of AtkinsRéalis, emphasized the importance of waste repurposing in achieving net-zero emissions and highlighted the company’s Engineering Net Zero strategic approach. This approach aims to facilitate a cleaner and more sustainable future by advising clients on their energy transition journey.

Waste-to-energy plants operate by incinerating waste to generate heat, which then powers a turbine generator to produce electricity and alternative fuels. The construction of new waste-to-energy facilities has been limited in the United States over the past two decades.

AtkinsRéalis has a proven track record as Miami-Dade’s trusted owners’ representative, with a history of successful engineering projects in the community. The company is well-positioned to support the development of a green mixed-use industrial campus that addresses waste challenges while generating renewable energy.

With over 23 alternative fuel projects delivered in North America since 1982, AtkinsRéalis is a fully integrated professional services and project management company with a global presence. The company serves clients in strategic sectors such as engineering services, nuclear, and capital projects.

Shares of AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX:ATRL) were trading at C$55.08, representing a decrease of 1.13% at 10:25 am ET on Tuesday.
